Quick History

The Big Tune In The Box officially launched in February 2003 at Bliss Nightclub in Skipton. The concept was originally the brainchild of three individuals, namely Mark Murray, Alex Firnigl-Rhodes and Adam Cox and involved audience participation of unprecedented proportions. With regard to the venue's music policy being predominantly Commercial Dance, Mark felt limited with regard to the amount of creativity he could introduce into his sets and relied on new releases, bootlegs and mashups to keep the momentum and audience interest as high as it possibly could be.

It was at this time 'The Big Tune In The Box' was devised; Each week Mark would select three 'tunes' that we're not on commercial release - but he felt could be incorporated into his sets without the need of stepping outside the music policy guidelines set in place by the venue. The three tunes would then be listed on thebigtuneinthebox.co.uk - along with a short description about each - and clubbers could go online and vote on what 'Big Tune' they would like to hear during their next visit to the venue. With the added dynamic of a 20ft Projection Screen emphasising the imminent arrival of the night's biggest record - It was literally pure theatre.

Since Skipton, 'thebigtune.com' has been transferred into venues all over the North West of England - and it is with enormous pride that we relaunch in 2007 in as strong a position as ever. See you on the dancefloor!
